President Yoweri Museveni has commended members of the Archdiocese of Mbarara Development Association, AMDA for their continued mobilization in accordance with the six pillars of unity, Spiritual development, Economic empowerment, Education development, Leadership development and Health.

This was contained in a speech delivered by State minister of finance and planning David Bahati on behalf of the president, during the monthly AMDA Mass at Kitante Primary school on Sunday.

The association which comprises of 6,000 members from over 49 parishes is constructing a UGX 6 billion building in Rubaga which will house the Arch Bishop and host their monthly Mass. The project which commenced in 2014 is expected to be completed in 2021. So far, more than UGX 900 million has been spent. 

According to the AMDA Chairperson Dr. Gaston Ampe, the building comprises of a Multi-purpose hall, AMDA offices and a SACCO on one block, plus the Bishop’s suit and priests residences on another block. The project sits on land owned by Mbarara Diocese, which entered an MOU with the association to build for the Bishop and put up something commercial. 

During the Sunday Mass the main celebrant, Arch-Bishop Paul K Bakyenga also applauded AMDA members for their unity and activities to change people’s lives including the just concluded Medical camp in Rushaje Parish, where at least 3,000 people received treatment.

The president in his speech also thanked Arch Bishop Bakyenga for being a dependable friend promising to invite him and AMDA leaders for a one on one meeting.
Mr. Museveni contributed UGX 100m to the project, 30m of which was delivered by hon. Bahati, and 70m remains a pledge.

The junior finance minister also pledged 5 million shillings to the cause.
