Gen. Andrew Gutti, the chairman General Court Martial has set free Kyadondo East MP Kyagulanyi Robert Alias Bobi Wine.

Maj. Raphael Mugisha the lead prosecutor told Court sitting at the 4th division military barracks in Gulu this morning that they had decided to drop all charges against the accused.

He had been charged with illegal possession of firearms stemming from two SMG rifles that were allegedly found in his room at hotel pacific in Arua, during the MP election campaigns.

It remains unclear why prosecution took this decision, or where the said guns are. It was upon this that Gen. Gutti decided to set Bobi Wine free.

Prosecution had however prayed that the MP be handed over to the police which would then charge him before a civilian court. But his lawyers led by Hon. Madard Lubega Ssegona objected to this, explaining that there were no charges pending at police.

The chairman sided with Ssegona and freed Bobi Wine, who was immediately arrested by police and taken to the Gulu magistrates Court.

“This court cannot keep trying Hon. Kyagulanyi since all charges have been dropped. Charging him in another court would also be an injustice to Kyagulanyi. I hereby set him free” Gutti said.

Outside court, his lawyer Ssegona informed Bobi Wine that he was under arrest from police and had to appear before the Magistrates court where he still is.

Bobi Wine was allowed to ride with his Wife Barbie from the Court Martial to the other court. The lawyers have applied for bail and the magistrate is yet to give his ruling. He however told them that his court is not allowed to try a treason case and that the accused could not even be allowed to say anything.

Bobi Wine faces treason charges along with 32 others.
