Prime Minister Rugunda officially opens Global Peace Leadership Conference in Uganda 

The prime minister of Uganda Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda has this morning officially opened the 2018 Global Peace Leadership conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

The prime minister of Uganda Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda has this morning officially opened the 2018 Global Peace Leadership conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo.

The two day conference is running under the theme; “Moral and innovative leadership: new models for sustainable peace and development.
According to Dr. Rugunda, the theme is timely and relevant for the world today, as it complements the ongoing regional effort for peace, security and development in the great Lakes Region of Africa. 

According go the premier, Uganda’s journey to host the global peace leadership conference started in 2015, and hosting it today conforms to the Pan-African commitment to the attainment of sustainable peace in the region to guarantee social economic development.

“I would like to inform this gathering that Uganda values the holding of this important event in Kampala. His excellency President Yoweri Museveni in particular, is a strong supporter of this conference and all efforts you are pursuing” he added.

Dr. Rugunda informed the hundreds of delegates and leaders from all over the world, that the choice of Uganda is also appropriate as the country is working with neighbors, playing a key role in efforts of peace and reconciliation in the region. 

He also told the gathering, that Uganda believes strongly in creation of a world of equal opportunities and respect for diversity. “To succeed in this endeavor requires each single state to take concrete actions for promotion of peace” he said.
