Police fired bullets in Ganda village in Nansana Municipality in Wakiso District on Sunday after residents went rowdy following a mysterious death of a candidate in local council one election. 

The deceased, 79year old David Kiiza collapsed dead shortly after returning home after a long day of campaigning for the polls slated for tomorrow Tuesday July 10.

The deceased, also ruling NRM candidate for the Ganda LC I chairperson seat has been the incumbent. Now, trouble started when his family members and campaign team suspectd that Kiiza could have died of poisoning.

Ibrahim Mpirima, the Chief Campaigner and Ganda NRM Youth Chairperson, told us that the deceased took a beer at one of the pubs in town after his campaigns, and it is suspected that he could have been poisoned through the bitter drink.  Adding that Kiiza has been receiving death threats from unknown people since he declared his intention to seek another term in office.

Kiiza’s abrubt death angered his supporters who then blocked all the roads leading to the village, threatening to lynch the proprietor of the pub where Kiiza was last seen.  

The rowdy mob also attempted to attack Kiiza's rivals, Richard Ssekiranda and Abdul Lubaga to question them about the death of their counterpart, but police officers from Ganda police station swung into action and fired live bullets to disperse the rowdy residents.  

According to a one Simon Byakatonda one of the residents of Ganda, people that saw the deceased’s body, said it had all signs of poisoning and this is what enraged residents to turn rowdy.   But, Adam Kimuli, the Officer in Charge of Ganda Police Station, says they handed over the deceased's body to Mulago National Referral Hospital for post mortem to establish the real cause of death.  

One of the remaining candidates, Richard Ssekiranda, says they have petitioned Electoral Commission to postpone the election to allow them to mourn their colleague.
