Anti-riot Police has heavily deployed in Kisoro town after news spread like wild fire that locals and political leaders were planning a demonstration against the arrest of the former Inspector General of Police, General Kale Kayihura.

Gen. Kayihura was arrested on Wednesday and is in military confinement. A son to the late John Kalekyezi popularly known as John Kale, Kayihura is a native of Rwanyonga in Gisoro, Nyakabande in Kisoro District.

The former IGP is currently detained at Makindye Military Barracks alongside four other senior police officers arrested over the last two days, while the military has kept mute of what charges he faces.

Now, Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson tells Howwe.Biz, that locals have been mobilized on social media by the LC5 Chairman to demonstrate the manner in which their son was arrested.

They described the arrest as shameful and unfair. This afternoon, several protestors were seen converging at Kisoro Mayors Gardens with placards for a demonstration through the streets of Kisoro town.

“People in Kisoro are mobilizing to demonstrate against the arrest of the former IGP Gen. Kayihura which they term as a shameless act against their gallant son. This is circulating on social media and its being done by the area LC5 chairman, one Abel Bizimana. The police has fully deployed to take charge of the situation under the public order management act, they should have informed the police” Maate told us on phone earlier today.

Locals believe that Kayihura did not deserve such humiliation after showing loyalty to the regime.
