There is panic in Ntoroko district, after a suspected Ebola patient was isolated at Karugutu Health Centre IV.

According to Rogers Mugisha, the Ntoroko district health officer, the male patient aged 25 and a resident of Kikyo Parish in Bundibugyo district, developed signs which include severe fever, bleeding, vomiting blood, severe dehydration and general body weakness.

The health officer adds that patient has been isolated and is being monitored and that the victim's blood samples have been sent to the Uganda Virus Research Institute for investigations.

"We suspected it could be Ebola because he has signs similar to those caused by the Ebola virus. Also, his parents said he has a history of eating wild animals’ meat," Mugisha said.

The Ebola epidemic was first reported in Kikyo Parish, Kasitu Sub County in 2007.

Back then, three residents of the area including Jonah Kule, the in- charge of Kikyo Health Centre IV, succumbed to Ebola.
