Losers in the 2016 general elections that raised and lost election petitions are in more trouble after courts of law started sending them to jail for failure to pay court awards.

After a saga with NBS presenter Samuel Muwanga, the sword has now turned to John Bosco Aseya, the former Mayor Lugazi town council, who has been sent to Kirinya Prison over failure to pay 200 Million Shillings.

This money is costs incurred by Aseya when he lost a petition against the election of Deo Mwesigye, the Mayor Lugazi.

Now, the petitioner who contested on the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party ticket lost to Tumwesigye of the National Resistance Movement-NRM party during 2016 general election.

The latter garnered 15,002 votes against Aseya's 11,011 votes.

But in his petition, Aseya accused Mwesigye and the Electoral Commission of not following the law, voter bribery, vote rigging, defacing of posters, intimidation, and assault and tampering with the seals of the ballot boxes.

In March last year however, the Jinja High Court dismissed this petition when Aseya failed to adduce sufficient evidence and was ordered to pay 200 million shillings.

Yesterday, Sumanya Kasule, the Jinja Grade One Magistrate sent Aseya to Kirinya prisons for a period of six months for failing to respect court decisions.

Aseya's pleas that he does not have money fell on deaf ears.
