Two people are admitted in Kapchorwa after showing signs of Marburg. One is admitted in the isolation unit at Kaproron Health Center IV and another at Kapchorwa Hospital after presenting with Marburg like symptoms.

According to Dr. Godfrey Chemosi, the Acting Kween District Health Officer, the suspected Marburg victim at Kaproron Health Center IV is a health worker.

Dr. Chemosis says they have dispatched blood samples from the health worker to Uganda Virus Institute (UVI) for examination. A medical officer, who spoke to us on condition of anonymity, says the health worker presented with high fever, muscle pains and vomiting among others.

He however, says they have not established any link between the health worker and the- 50-year-old women from Chemuron village in Moyok Parish in Moyok Sub County who succumbed to succumbed to Marburg on October 17th, 2017.

John Bosco Opio, the acting Chief Administrative Officer Kapchorwa district who doubles as the spokesperson of the Marburg task Force in Kapchorwa, says one person is also admitted in the isolation unit at Kapchorwa hospital.

They are also waiting for the results from the blood samples that were dispatched to Uganda Virus Institute (UVI) for examination.

He however, says there is no cause for alarm, adding that they are still follow-up eight other people. Dr. Opio said some of the people believed to have come into contact with the Marburg victim have completed the 21 day follow-up.

According to Opio, they have organised sensitization meetings for staff at Kapchorwa Hospital and Kween health Center IV on how to handle suspected Marburg cases.

Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) is caused by an infected animal, such as monkeys (baboon) or a fruit bat tdhat passes the virus to a human. The virus then spreads from human to human by contact with an infected person's body fluids. Its symptoms include; high fever, muscle pains, vomiting and bleeding through body openings like eyes, Nose, gum, anus and ears.
