Two Dead in Kabale Bus Accident

Two people are confirmed dead and one other injured following a bus accident at Kyanamira Trading Centre along Kabale-Mbarara Highway, about four kilometres from Kabale town.

Two people are confirmed dead and one other injured following a bus accident at Kyanamira Trading Centre along Kabale-Mbarara Highway, about four kilometres from Kabale town.

Reports indicate that the two deceased persons were crossing the road from Karubanda on a motorcycle registration number UEH 958G and rammed into a Modern Coast Bus registration number UAZ 654F. The bus was heading to Kampala from Kigali, Rwanda when the tragedy occurred.

The deceased have been identified as Avitas Akampurira, 35, and Wilbrod Barugahare, 38, both residents of Bugandara cell in Kyanamira sub-county Kabale district, while the injured is Ruth Uwera, 22, a Rwandan national and student of St Lawrence University, Kampala.

Maxim Atuheire, one of the eyewitnesses says that the deceased persons were visibly drunk, adding that the bus driver unsuccessfully tried to avoid a collision.

Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate says the bus swerved off the road and overturned. He, however, adds that police is hunting for the Driver who is currently on the run.

Unharmed Passengers proceeded with their journey to Kampala while the injured is admitted at Rugarama hospital.
