MPs under Lango Parliamentary Group are questioning the criterion being used by government to select areas that benefit from relief food in various parts of the country.
The Chairman Lango Parliamentary Group and Dokolo South Member of Parliament, Felix Okot Ogong, says they are perturbed that although Lango is one of the areas facing severe food shortage, it has been neglected.
Okot explains that a recent research by government on the level of hunger in the country list Karamoja, Teso and Lango as the most affected. He however, says they are surprised that government sent relief food to Karamoja and Teso sub regions and has now jumped to Mbarara.
The Oyam Woman Member of Parliament, Santa Alum Ogwang, says government has ignored Lango sub region and left residents starving.
The Ajuri county MP Hamson Denis Obua, says all they want is equal distribution of relief food to the hunger stricken population in the country.
Residents have welcomed the move by Lango parliamentary group to pressurize government to provide them relief food.
Anthony Ojuka, the Lira District Production Secretary says almost 80 percent of the households in Lira are food insecure, adding that most of them can't even afford a single meal day.
The recent National Food Security Assessment report shows that 10.9 million people in the country are experiencing acute food insecurity, of which 1.6 million are in crisis situation.
The report says the food security situation across the country is deteriorating resulting from the prolonged dry spell. In February government earmarked Shillings 25billion to purchase relief food for the food- stressed population.
