The Katikiro of Buganda Peter Mayiga, has cautioned the kingdom subjects to protect themselves against HIV/AIDS if they to survive the raising Aids prevalence.
While speaking to Christians shortly after the Sunday Easter mass at Rubaga Cathedral, Mayiga noted with concern the increasing HIV prevalence in Buganda Kingdom.
He noted that unlike Malaria that results from unnoticed mosquito bites, people get HIV through irresponsible sexual behavior.
Kabaka Ronald Muwend Mutebi was about two months ago, appointed the UNAIDS good will Ambassador for Africa. He is expected to rally Africa community for an inclusive response to the AIDS epidemic.
The Kabaka will help network and support communication of clear benchmarks and goals in the AIDS response, including UNAIDS mission of finding a cure for HIV by 2020, in order to realize UNAIDS' vision of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
Katikkiro Mayiga says Buganda kingdom is committed to sensitizing people on how to avoid Aids. He also expressed concern on the ongoing attacks in Masaka district.
"I spoke with police Chief Gen Kale Kayihura and asked him whether police has failed to arrest people killing others. We have soldiers in Congo, South Sudan, Somalia who are fighting for peace, why are we failing to bring total peace in Uganda?" he asked.
Dr. Cyprian Lwanga, the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese asked Christians to shape their respective families in a way that they can contribute to building Uganda.
He urged both the Ugandan and East African parliaments to pass laws that bring peace and equality to all.
