The ruling National Resistance Movement, NRM party electoral commission has announced a road map for the Moroto District woman MP race.

The announcement follows the death of former MP Annie Logiel who passed on in Denmark last month, prompting the electoral commission to announce an election meant to fill the gap.

This morning, Odoi Tanga the NRM electoral commission chairperson announce the electoral program for party primaries and denounced as rumors, word that the party has already chosen a candidate.

According Prof. Odoi, the exercise will be run under the following guidelines;

A contestant must; be a female Ugandan, be aged 18 years and above, be a member of NRM, be born/resident in the electoral area, must have verified/certified O and A level Certificates or their equivalent, must not be employed in an organization wholly owned by government, must not be a member of the armed forced such as the Army, Police and Prisons among others.

Campaigns shall strictly be joint, as provided for in the NRM constitution.

The chairman warned aspiring candidates that it has to the party’s attention that some of them were spreading rumors that a candidate who should stand unopposed had been handpicked, calling this a rumor by unscrupulous elements.

“NRM EC would like to categorically state that no such thing has happened and that the party flag bearer shall be chosen through election by all party members in the district” Odoi explained.

He added; “The commission wishes to take this opportunity to warn all aspiring candidates and other interested parties to refrain from engaging in any form of campaigns until the gazette time as laid out in the just announced NRM EC roadmap.”

Candidates will pick expression of interest and forms starting Thursday 9th to Tuesday 14th March. Nominations will take place on Thursday 16th March, campaigns will be held between 18th March to April 1st, while polling will take place on Monday 3rd April 2017.
