Ministry of health head offices in Kampala have been re-opened and are fully operational, after a fire outbreak that destroyed five offices.

A statement from the ministry’s permanent secretary Dr. Diana Atwiine indicates that after the incident on Sunday afternoon, the headquarters were declared a crime scene and sealed off, but would later be re-opened on Tuesday.

She however indicates that the affected section remains sealed off as police investigations continue.

Fire gutted ministry of health head offices on Sunday afternoon affecting five offices including that of the Commissioner Quality Assurance, Assistant Commissioner Quality Assurance, secretary to Assistant Commissioner Child Health, Assistant Commissioner Reproductive Health, and that of Senior Health Educator – Health Promotion and Education.

According to Dr. Diana, cause of the fire could not readily be established but police fire brigade swiftly contained it before spreading to other offices.

“We would like to inform the public that the origin and cause of the fire is under investigation by a fully competent multi-sectoral team of experts and a comprehensive report shall be availed to the public and all stakeholders as soon as we get it” the permanent secretary wrote.

She adds; “We request the staff to remain calm as we find alternative office space for the officers who were affected by the fire. The public is hereby notified that the services at the ministry of health are continuing normally, without interruption.”
