The opposition Democratic Party, DP wants an independent inquiry into mass murders in Kasese.

Addressing the press in Kampala, Kenneth Paul Kakande said there is need for an independent inquiry that does not involve the police and Military, whom he believes were a party to the murders.

Kakande says the very people that committed crimes cannot be investigating them.

“There were gruesome killings of innocent children, men and women. Many institutions do not have to enhance when it comes to the Kasese incident, whether the police, army our intelligence organizations and many other institutions. The DP demands for the truth to come out, to know who the perpetrators of the Kasese killings were” Kakande said.

At least 60 people including security personnel and Royal guards of Charles Wesley Mumbere, the Omusinga of Rwenzururu were killed during clashes on 26th and 27th November.

The clashes also led to the arrest of Omusinga Mumbere who was charged with murder and remanded until December 13th when he will return to court.

Ever since the clashes occurred, opposition leaders and Kasese MPs have come up in arms against the police and military actions that left at least 46 Royal guards dead.

This morning another two graves were discovered with two bodies suspected to belong to Royal guards who went missing on November 26th, the day the clashes started.

Kakande says the people of Kasese and Uganda at large deserve to know the truth of who killed who and why, and also the culprits need to be prosecuted.
