The body of late Maj. Gen. Julius Oketta is yet to arrive at our Lady of Africa church in Mbuya for a requiem Mass as family members and friends gather to pay their respects and pray for his departed soul this morning.

Mass is scheduled to start at 10:00 am and many people have already arrived at the church.

On Monday, Maj. Gen. Oketta’s body lay in parliament for public viewing before a special sitting was held in the chambers for members of parliament to honor him.

Oketta was described by many as a humble, corrupt free and dedicated servant of Uganda. Speaker after speaker, they all praised the former representative of the military in the ninth parliament.

Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda said Oketta dedicated his life to liberation, unity and development of Uganda and Africa at large. General Oketta was a member of the Advisory Board of the UN Central emergency response fund and earned a medal from Liberia’s president SirLeaf Johnson for his effort in fighting the Ebola disease in the country.

Leader of opposition described the deceased as a friendly man even to the civilians, while chief of defense forces Gen. Katumba Wamala said he was a product of the Uganda National Liberation army together with officers who have joined the NRA which is now UPDF.

Oketta died over the weekend due to a blood clot following two accidents he had suffered in the past.

After the requiem Mass, the body will be airlifted to Gulu.
