Uganda police force has released a map that will be followed by participants during this Sunday’s rotary cancer run in Kampala.

This was released by Chief Political Commissar Kampala Metropolitan Police Emilian Kayima during a press briefing in Kampala this morning.

Kayima indicates that the force is ready to provide enough security as required on the day. He says they are working hand in hand with the organizers to see that the event is not interrupted by any security problems.

“We expect hundreds and thousands of participants in this exercise and for us as security, we are fully prepared to secure the exercise” said Kayima.

He explained that the traffic police and other specialized units will support the territorial police to secure Jinja road, Kiira Road and Wandegeya, the areas where the run will go through.

Kayima says police stations in these areas have been preparing to the exercise, have fully done site and route surveys and they are going to fully deploy and occupy the sites and venue (Kololo independence grounds).

“We shall have on ground fire brigade and rescue services, counter terrorism teams, traffic police, K-9 unit, and the medical teams. The intention is to secure the exercise” He said.

He added; “We expect to do some screening as participants enter Kololo independence grounds. Of course we know there are security threats including possible terror attacks. So we will do it, and want to do it in a way that does not inconvenience the participants.”

Lydia Bujara, one of the organizers told the press that this year’s proceedings from the cancer run will be used to purchase a screening machine for Nsambya hospital.
