President Yoweri Museveni has promised additional 16.6bn shillings towards the completion of Namugongo Martyrs’ Shrine.
The revelation was made by Vice President Edward Ssekandi who represented him at today’s Martyrs’ day celebrations at the Namugongo Catholic Shrine.
Government had in the past contributed 32Bn towards the development of the shrines. The Catholic Church has other shrines in Munyonyo under construction, which the president also pledged to work on in the past.
The two sites have become a major tourist attraction in Uganda and across the world. “Government will continue working with the Church to make Holy sites better places as a prime world spiritual tourist destination,” Ssekandi read.
The president’s message also said; “Government has already contributed 32bn Shillings towards development of this place and is to give additional 16.6bn shillings this financial year.”
The president in his speech read by Ssekandi also promised to continue guaranteeing freedom of worship to all Ugandans as per the constitution of Uganda.
