Facts: Why it's SO HARD to support Bebe Cool and Jose Chameleone

Dr. Jose Chameleone and Bebe Cool lost the MAMAs and now they blame music fans for not supporting them ... but they are the PROBLEM ... and this is exactly WHY!

Facts: Why it's SO HARD to support Bebe Cool and Jose Chameleone

Two of our legendary musicians have made it ‘so hard’ for the people to love and support them. This is not because they don't do good music and neither is it because they can't improve, but it's all because of the reason I will exhaust in this post.

Bebe Cool and Jose Chameleone lost in this year's MTV Africa Music Awards ... and they returned tout de suite blaming Ugandans for not giving them enough support.

One thing our two legends have forgotten—or have chosen to ignore—is that the music industry has changed and there's more ‘new talent’ and options making the competition tighter than it ever has been. To be very exact, there's never been a crucial time to increase their fan base in Ugandan music than right now.

Bad as it is, Chameleone and Bebe Cool's fan base is diminishing, something I believe they know by now—but their approach towards making things better is just making everything worse. Their fan base WILL NOT increase unless they learn how to make new fans. Not to insult anyone, but these two artistes have a medieval mindset of "I Already Have Enough Fans" ... NO, not really, you don't ... because there's no such a thing as ‘enough fans’ in the music industry.

It's not realistic for any artiste to be loved by everyone, but wise artistes, instead of insulting their non-supporters, they give them reason to change their mind by showing them the respect they deserve as music fans — that's how you grow your fan base while keeping the bond between you and your long term followers strong.

Where are the manners?

After losing the MAMA award, Bebe Cool took to his Facebook fan page and harshed on his non-supporters. Before the awards, he insulted Barbie's kids claiming they are a result of Bobi Wine having live sex with random club girls. His comments annoyed all Firebase fans and his own. That's the moment he lost the biggest number of fans just because he couldn't control his ego. Technically, Ugandan music lovers did not vote for Bebe Cool. He hired a team of hundreds of people to vote—the same cult that makes all the noise on social media—but it turned out their votes were not enough for him to win the award. Bebe Cool uploaded his GO MAMA album on Amazon, but not any single one of those hundreds of people on social media has bought his album. But he still won't learn — or probably doesn't want to.

Jose Chameleone is one artiste that a big percentage of Ugandan music lovers respect ... but he's taken a wrong path lately and I fear he might be headed Bebe Cool's path.

Having manners often is, for obvious reasons, a vital component of being a great and respected artiste.

Chameleone lost the MAMA Evolution award, but it was understandable because his competition was tighter than we can possibly put it. All that has been coming from him since the loss was positive comments towards his fans thanking them for voting ... but he just made the worst move that is likely to cause a step-down to his ratings.

Chameleone took to his Facebook fan page earlier today and shared a status that reads:

From EVOLUTION to REVOLUTION!!! The only way forward is working, Believing and supporting each other. My comrade Bebe Cool is a great witness to how every time a West African won an accolade they all stood up in applaud unlike East Africa people. It's a new world of Unity and Self belief!!!! Like it says "Charity begins at home" it's time we move as a unit not a digit.Congrats to you VOTERS who did all you could to represent your people. It's now upon us artistes to Unify the people with love and support for each other. Lets meet at Serena 7th August to LOVE a brother BROTHER I know as Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool.

Its time for the WISE To comment and FOOLISH ones to showcase. FOOLISH minds will tell!!!!

I will forever stand for the pride of my people. NOT my Ego......
Blessed week

How do you expect a singer to grow his fan base if that's the kind of message he's sharing with the people? That's the exact medieval mindset am talking about ... thinking the fans he already has are enough ... he can say anything he wants to his so called ‘haters’. Would the hard-core fans stick around after a series of such comments?

It's FUNNY how they say Ugandans should UNITE and support our artistes ... yet they wake every morning to their Facebook and Twitter accounts to abuse and humiliate Ugandans. Who is the problem?

If any Ugandan artiste expects to win awards on the international scene without increasing their fan base first, something is wrong. But, how exactly do you grow your fan base?

Fan Base

One thing that fascinates me about how some artists develop is the ‘leaps’ where they grow exponentially over a short period of time ... while ... others grow at an incremental rate—or never—their whole career — but what causes these leaps?

In practical terms, how can you double or triple the size of your fan base in a short period of time?

I urge you to not just read this post and go back to browsing Twitter. No one builds their fan base by clicking on links all day. You build your fan base by taking action – testing and learning what works, and eliminating what doesn’t (like PRIDE). Try something new today.

Every single fan must (on average) generate at least one new fan

To double or triple the size of your fan base you need every one of your current fans to (on average) introduce your music to one or two of their friends who will also take the same action. Once you show respect to your non-believers and give people reason to share your music, the results will be amazing. This is the most fundamental point to this post. The larger the number of new fans each fan introduces your music to, the quicker your fan base will grow.

That's what every artiste needs to know. Even legends need new fans, otherwise, us—the music fans, are always going to be blamed of the failures of some of these arrogant artistes.

Musicians should take a leaf out of Eddy Kenzo, Irene Ntale, Ziza Bafana, King Saha and Juliana Kanyomozi's book ... Ugandan music will be much better.

Who is to blame for the failure of our musicians, ... Artistes or the Fans?
