Apparently, the Video Of The Year award is given to the Director. Not the artist. That's a big blow to our music industry.
Yesterday social media went abuzz after receiving false news that Bebe Cool had been nominated in the "Video Of The Year" category at the MTV Africa Music Awards KwaZulu-Natal 2015.
A few hours after the noise started, Bebe Cool who is known for bragging on social media about even the smallest achievements, did not say or share anything ... until a few hours later. Unfortunately, our Bebe also misunderstood the nominations.
He should have known better ... because he wasn't given any certificate to confirm his nomination, right?
Apparently, Nigerian video director Clarence Peters, the guy behind Bebe Cool's biggest hit ever, Love You Everyday, is the one nominated against fellow video directors Meji Alabi, Sesan, Adriaan Louw and Ryan Kruger.
Clarence Peters won the MAMA KwaZulu-Natal 2014 award for "Video Of The Year". He will most likely win this one too because Love You Everyday was a masterpiece
A statement that appears in the most recent MAMA press release reads:
Last year’s Video of the Year winner Clarence Peters (Nigeria) is hoping to repeat his 2014 success with a second nomination in this category for Bebe Cool’s music video “Love You Everyday”, competing against fellow directors Sesan (“The Sound”:Davido Featuring Uhuru & DJ Buckz), Adriaan Louw (“Nafukwa”: Riky Rick), Meji Alabi (“Crazy”: Seyi Shay Featuring Wizkid) and Ryan Kruger (“Doors”: Prime Circle).
It's sad!
The list displaying all nominees and their respective categories specifies the directors of the videos on the on the Video of the Year category.
