Legendary Afro-beat singer 'Bobi Wine' has something thing for his haters and everyone that doesn't think what he stands for is right... good and meaningful music, hit after hit, as he refers to it.
The "Byekwaso" singer was recently denied a visa to visit the UK last month after gay rights campaigners accused him of inciting homophobic attacks in his song lyrics.
Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, was forced to cancel two scheduled gigs in Birmingham and London where he was due to support Ugandan drama and music group the Ebonies, according to reports from the Guardian.
A change.org petition voiced by gay rights campaigners in the UK said:
“Ugandan artist Bobi Wine writes songs with blatant homophobic lyrics and calls for gay people to be attacked, or killed… allowing such an artist to appear in public is clearly going to raise tensions”
Only 666 supporters had signed the petition by the time of this article, which means 333 more were need to validify the petition, but still Bobi Wine was denied a Visa to travel to the UK which was according to his fans, an unfair decision.
It is reported that before the Visa cancelled Bobi Wine outline his position on homosexuality and freedom speech, while speaking to Daily Monitor.
“I am personally not out to threaten the life of any individual based on their sexual orientation, I just do not agree with them [homosexuals]”, he said. “This is my opinion and happens to be that of 99 per cent of Ugandans”, — he claimed.
“I hope that the proponents of homosexuality who pride themselves in their liberalism and support for human rights, will allow me my right of expression much as they may not be comfortable with my opinion,” — he added.
Wine has promised more music and has vowed to always stand for the truth following his ban... we've seen that in his lyrics to his latest song "Byekwaso". He says these hypocrites are begging him to cease fire but he wont.
