The appointment means that King Oyo will be the voice, face and ambassador of a youth led campaign aimed at ending Aids in Africa by 2030. The campaign was initiated by the African Young Positives Network, a regional network for young people living with HIV in Africa.
The appointment of King Oyo was delivered to King Oyo at a function took place at the Kingdom palace in Fort Portal.
Moses Engadu, the deputy regional director of the African Young Positives says that more than 5,000 youths selected King Oyo to be their ambassador during an HIV/AIDS youth conference that took place in Cape town, South Africa last month.
Engadu says that as Ambassador, King Oyo will mobilize Heads of state, other African leaders and youths to be able to support the cause of fighting Aids.
In his acceptance speech, King Oyo said that he will not disappoint in his new role. King Oyo also says that he has on several occasions been touched by the high number of youths who are infected with HIV/AIDS.
King Oyo said that he will start his campaign in Kabarole district, where the HIV prevalence rate stands at 14%.
King Oyo later signed on his portrait and t-shirts, which will be used in the campaign around several African countries.
This is second time King Oyo has been appointed a goodwill ambassador. Last year, more than 400 children from the Rwenzori region chose him to be a goodwill ambassador to promote child and maternal health in the country.
