Actress Lupita Nyong'o has found companionship in her newly adopted cat on her first attempt at having a pet.
Lupita said that she has not been a pet person, but lately she has gathered the courage to try adopting one after a friend held her hand and walked with her through the breakup journey.
"Introducing my new companion, Yoyo!" Lupita captioned her post.
"I have historically been afraid of cats, but when my life was altered instantly recently, a little voice whispered to me that it was time to embrace change and new possibilities. So, a dear friend held my hand through the process and took me to visit my first animal shelters. I fostered Yoyo and 3 days into it, I knew I could not give him up," she added.
According to her, Yoyo has ended up saving her life, especially now that she is healing.
"I never understood people whose phones were full of photos and videos of their pets - now I am one of those people! It may look like I saved Yoyo, but really, Yoyo is saving me."
This comes a week after the Kenyan-born Hollywood star revealed that she had broken up with her South African boyfriend, Selema Masekela.
Lupita said the breakup was a result of deception.
"I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception," she wrote on Instagram.
Lupita had introduced Masekela as the main man in December 2022, but 10 months later she announced that she could no longer trust him, and wanted the world to know.
