Ugandans were treated to a weekend of laughter by comedians from across Africa at the first ever comedy festival.

The event that lasted 2 days (Friday and Saturday) attracted hundreds of revelers at Century Cinemax Acacia who enjoyed comedy from local and international acts. It was organized by local standup comedian Okello Joshua aka Okello Okello.

Day one saw performances from Rwanda’s Michael Sengazi, Zimbabwe’s Long John, AK Dans from South Sudan as well as Kenya’s Emmanuel Kisangani. These performed along with Uganda’s comedy grandfather Pablo Kimuli, Ronnie Mcvex, Tumu Siime, Laptop and OJ as well as Timothy J.

However, the most shining man of the evening for many a people was also the darkest. South Sudan’s AK Dans left many in stitches after cracking jokes about his childhood life in refugee camps.

While it was a tragic experience including deaths by some of his relatives and neighbors, Dans turned his suffering into laughter by telling the story in a rather humorous manner. He talked about whites (donors) distributing food in earoplanes. According to Dans, food would be dropped from the sky, and sometimes sacks of posho landed on people’s heads killing them instantly.

Uganda’s Pablo and his team also did not disappoint as well as the other international act. At the end of the show, organizer Okello Okello hinted on bringing Trevor Noah host of the Daily Show, to headline next year’s festival. Whether this was a joke or not, revelers sure took it for the truth.

On Saturday, more comedians entertained revelers including; Dr. Ofweneke from Kenya, Rwanda’s Babu Joe, Jean Divin from Burundi, Uganda’s Cotilda Inapo, Emma Napoleone, Daniel Omara Akite Agnes, Optional Allan, complimented by the Friday Lineup.
