In Uganda, Upcoming musicians go through a lot to make it to the top and start earning from their hustle. Female upcoming musicians go through a lot before they can make it. Producers, DJs and even writers make them do things that are unheard of;

Extortion

Most upcoming artistes are so desperate to make it in the music industry. They are willing to do anything to share a stage with big artistes or have a chance to perform at a certain concert. The organisers, established artistes and DJs take advantage of them by asking them to pay certain amount of money to be able to share a stage or play their music. But sometimes these budding artistes never get a chance to perform at these concerts. When they try to raise their concerns, they are intimated by these experienced artistes and DJs.

Events security guru, Dixon Okello confirmed to us that, he has slapped several DJs on several occasions over extortion. These young musicians approach him for help.  Some are told that they won’t perform after paying their money but they are never refunded.

Sex

This has been the most common vice practiced by song writers and producers.  They use sex as a form of payment for the songs and when when these female artistes refuse,their music stay in studios for as long as they want. These producers are well skilled and they know how to push these young artistes to the corner.  And when they give them sex, they change their minds. This is the most annoying and painful thing that young musicians go through.

Exploitation

Upcoming artistes are desperate to be famous so they are forced to pay a lot of money for productions, advertising, and mentions at Radios among others. Sometimes their songs are sold to other big musicians and they have no say
