After the inclusion of Skateboarding on the list of sports to headline the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo Japan, Skateboarders in Uganda have shifted their energies to creating a team to represent Uganda in Tokyo.

After the inclusion of Skateboarding on the list of sports to headline the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo Japan, Skateboarders in Uganda have shifted their energies to creating a team to represent Uganda in Tokyo.

According to Mountain Dew Skateboarding Tour lead skateboarder Gerald Gose the Uganda Skateboarding Association will embark on identifying talent that can represent Uganda in Tokyo.

“We are currently on the Mountain Dew Skateboarding Tour. After the tour which is like to end in like two weeks, we shall immediately embark on preparations,” said Gose.

Gose and a few of his colleagues have been traversing Uganda in the Mountain Dew Skateboarding Champion tour.

The tour that started in Iganga has gone to places that include Mbale, Masaka, Mbarara, Fortportal, Arua, Lira, Kampala and Hoima respectively, and it’s still moving to different places.

So far, 11 skateboarders have been identified as contenders for the grand prize which will be awarded to the winner at the grand finale which will take place in Kampala on August 27th, 2016.

According to Ms Bern Kizza the brand manager Mountain Dew, the grand winner will take home 2 million shillings among other prizes.

“There are lots of prizes for the participants. However, the winner will take home shs2 million, the first runners-up will take home shs1 million, and the second runners-up will take shs500, 000,” said Kizza.
