Government through the Ministry of Health is finalizing the construction of maternity wards and theatres across 27 Health Centre IVs across the country.
The plan facilitated with funds mobilized from the national budget and international agencies, will also see the renovation of nine general hospitals of Mityana, Nakaseke, Kiryandongo, Nebbi, Anaka, Moyo, Entebbe, Iganga and Moroto.
The acting director general of health services in the ministry, Prof Anthony Mbonye explains that some of the completed areas of work are electrical and mechanical fittings, borehole pumps and general water supply systems.
“Over 75% of the work has been finalized,” Mbonye said.
He adds that the completion of these structures will facilitate the reduction of maternal deaths in the country from the current 343 per 100,000 to 130 per 100,000 in the next five years.
Mbonye observed; “the constructions are part of the Government’s plan to renovate hospitals and health centres across the country. The plan is intended to improve health service delivery.
