Police in Natete are holding a woman for burning her stepdaughter’s buttocks with burning charcoal.

The suspect, Nabatesa Prossy, 28, a resident of Kigwanya zone, Rubaga division in Kampala reportedly tortured the 9-year-old child (names withheld) and denied her treatment.

The victim has been living with Nabatesa since the father identified as Lule Israel left for Kyeyo abroad.

The child remains in excruciating pain, can barely sit, and is rotting from the buttocks after her stepmother denied her access to the necessary treatment.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, the matter was brought to the attention of the police by the area LC 1 following reports from locals.

He says preliminary investigations show that on August 18, 2022, at 1 pm, Nabatesa pushed the minor on hot charcoal she was trying to put out.

Owoyesigyire says the minor was in the kitchen where two charcoal stoves were lit, one with boiling content while the other the victim was trying to extinguish.

He says in the process of putting out the fire, the victim made an alarm, attracting the attention of Nabatesa from the living room, who thought that the minor had poured the boiling content. Nabetta just pushed the victim back to the burning charcoal stove setting her buttocks on heat. After the incident, the suspect did not take the victim to any health facility for fast aid.

He adds that the child is currently receiving treatment. They intend to connect her to a social worker who will help get her home while the police trace her relatives.
