Police in Busoga East are holding a police constable for the alleged theft of spare parts from a government car.

The suspect Edrine Walele, attached to Baitambogwe Police Post reportedly connived with thugs, now on the run, to steal parts from the vehicle registration number; UG 247W.

The group reportedly stole parts including a handbrake, windscreen, and battery among others before fleeing the scene.

Preliminary findings from the police suggest that Walele and his accomplices targeted the government car which was parked at Baitambogwe sub-county headquarters, in Mayuge district.

Police say the driver of the car later noticed that it had been tampered with and called a mechanic to inspect it. The matter was reported to the sub-county leadership, and a case of theft was reported at Mayuge police station.

The detectives deployed sniffer dogs around the Baitambogwe sub-county headquarters area that led police to Walele's house where they recovered the missing items.

The Mayuge Resident District Commissioner, Richard Gulume, says the suspect will be taken to court for justice to prevail.

"No one is above the law and the successful prosecution of Walele will serve as an example to other civil servants and policemen alike, who vandalize and steal government equipment with impunity," he says.
