The Police in Amuru District is hunting for 8 suspects in connection to an arson incident that left 3 grass thatched huts burnt to the ground.

The incident happened on the night of 31/03/2022 at around 11:00Pm.

The victims have been identified as; Oweka Charles, Akidi Maurino and Okwera Philip, all residents of Alii village, Alii parish Layima sub-county in Amuru District.

According to ASP Ongom David Mudong the PRO ASWA-River, on the fateful night, key suspects identified as Oyugi Jimmy, Otto Atinya, Odong Simon, Oyat Geoffrey, Abe Julius, Ociti Martin,

Kidega Doctor and Ojok Pilipo all from Koch Padaka clan took the law into their hands when they burnt down the three grass thatched huts.

He noted that an unspecified number of properties were destroyed on allegations that Akidi Maurino, the wife of Okwera Philip bewitched their son Olok Kereni last year.

However, Police were notified late when the fire had already destroyed the structures beyond rescue. The detectives rushed to the scene, documented it and recorded statements from relevant witnesses to guide the investigation.
Currently, no arrest has yet been made but efforts have been intensified to have the suspects apprehended for interrogation and subsequent prosecution in courts of law.
