Police in Mbale are investigating circumstances underwhich residents raided the home of Samuel Shibuta, a resident of Lukii village in Bumbobi parish in Bumbobi Sub County in Mbale District and killed him.

The Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, Mansur Suwedi, says a group of residents raided Shibuta's home at 12:30am this morning and lynched him before setting his house ablaze on allegations of practicing witchcraft.

He explains that the assailants removed Shibuta's wife Monica Kakai from the house and placed her in the compound before setting the house on fire since she is bedridden because of a stroke.

Suwedi says the couple's 9-year-old granddaughter Hope Kakai, a primary 4 pupil at Bumboi Primary School fled into hiding upon seeing the attackers.

She only returned upon seeing police officers and is due to record a statement at Mbale Central Police Station.

Suwed says police has taken Shibuta's body to Mbale municipal mortuary while his sick wife is admitted at Mbale main Hospital for treatment.

He however, says no suspect has been arrested in connection to the attack
