Police in Kampala have in custody two youths accused of burning National Resistance Movement-NRM party T-shirts in protest of the proposed constitutional amendment to lift the presidential age limit.

The suspects were part of a group of four youths led by a one, Robinson Wabulembo. They were found at Luwum Street in Kampala where they had set the NRM party-T-shirts ablaze.

Two of the suspects escaped arrest. Wabulembo told reporters at Kampala Central Police Station that their demonstration was a sign of frustration in the NRM government and its attempts to abolish the presidential age limit to allow President, Yoweri Museveni to seek another term of office.

Emilian Kayima, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, saying he was in a meeting.

Recently, government tabled the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2017 in parliament for consideration. Although the bill is silent on the presidential age limit, speculation is high that government might introduce the proposal at a later stage.
