The police have vowed to arrest more residents of Isingiro, should they re-attempt to sabotage the government project to demarcate public and Nakivale settlement camp lands.

Last week, police arrested six residents after who are claiming part of Nakivale Refugee Resettlement camp land. This forced Government to come up with a project to demarcate the land and ensure that straight boundaries are set for public land and the settlement.

Police has now warned that if at any time during the demarcation exercise, any of the residents attempt to block it, they will be arrested and sent to jail to face the wrath of law.

The warning was sounded by Andrew Felix Kaweesi during today’s weekly press conference at Naguru police headquarters.

“The police will continue to ensure that there is no violence and lawlessness in this area, and will ensure that all government programs go on as planned. So, the survey if it is sanctioned as a government project will go on and those who oppose it will have to face the law” Kaweesi warned.

Tension started after the district chairperson, Mr Jeremiah Kamurari, who police has been hunting for, announced an operation led by residents code named ‘Operation Nakivale Nziima’ aimed at establishing the right boundaries separating Nakivale Refugee Resettlement Camp land from that of the natives.

Radio announcements would later be made rallying locals to join the operation that was to begin on February 10. The residents showed up blocking roads and bringing down sign posts of several NGOs in the area, before police was called in to disperse them with teargas.
