The Omusinga of Rwenzururu, Charles Wesley Mumbere is today afternoon set to know his fate on the Bail application he filed last month.

Mumbere through his lawyers of Alaka & Co Advocates and Ochieng Associates Advocates, Mumbere on December 16 filed an application in Jinja High court seeking to be released on bail pending his trial.

On Thursday, High Court judge Eva Luswata of Jinja High Court ruled that her court has jurisdiction to hear Mumbere’s application, after prosecution argued the jurisdiction point. She therefore set today Friday 13th January 2017 at 3PM at the time to hear the Bail application.

Prosecution alleges that Mumbere and his co-accused persons, between March and November 2016, at diverse place within Kabarole and Kasese districts, contrived a plot to overturn the government of Uganda by use of arms. Adding that during the same period, they used pangas and knives to kill a police officer identified as Godfrey Kasimba, on top of attempting to take the lives of eight other police officers.

Evidence to be adduced by the prosecution shows that Mumbere who was formally installed as King of Rwenzururu in 2009, felt weakened when in 2004, the Bamba people inaugurated their cultural institution called Obundhingiya Bwa Bamba.

This according to prosecution sparked off fights since a reasonable number of Mumbere's royal guards were from Bundibugyo and it marked the beginning of various attacks within the Rwenzori region.

However, in his application, Mumbere points out that it is his constitutional right as any innocent Ugandan to apply for bail and assures court that he will not interfere with investigations.

He further added that he has substantial sureties who are willing stand for him,  he has got fixed places of abode at Muyenga Cell, Nyakabingo II in Kasese and in Makindye, Kampala.
