Troubled businessman, Matthew Kanyamunyu and three other suspects in the Lugogo shooting of a social worker Kenneth Akena are set to appear in court today.

The development has been confirmed by Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

Kanyamunyu and his Burundian girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari have been in police custody since November 12 when they were arrested following the shooting of Akena at lugogo.

The duo is alleged to have killed Akena when he accidentally scratched Kanyamunyu’s car in the parking area. When he attempted to apologize, the suspect allegedly shot him in the stomach.

Late last week, police also arrested Kanyamunyu’s brothers; Joseph Kanyamunyu and Moses Kanyamunyu to help with investigations. Police also searched their homes with hopes to recover the murder weapon which went missing after the shooting, but nothing seems to have been forund.

Mr. Kaweesi over the weekend said the suspects have been in their custody beyond the constitutional 48 hours because police were still investigating the case.

Kaweesi added that they would be produced to court today, and would have charged them already.

Following the shooting, several questions have been raised including why there was no victim’s blood in Kanyamunyu’s car in which he was reportedly transported to the hospital following the shooting.

However, Kaweesi said this was possible because the bullet did not go through Akena.
