Iceland side IBV Vestmannaeyjar has confirmed Abel Dhaira's health is disturbing after the goalkeeper was diagnosed with abdominal cancer.

A statement on the official club website reads;

Abel Dhaira, played for the club, had big problems with illness in recent months.

He was cut in Uganda for the year due to cancer in the abdomen which has now spread to more organs. Abel will begin treatment in the country next week.

The company sponsors and stand firmly behind Abel and will seek to ensure him the best medical care available.

Abel to relieve the financial burden of such a difficult disease and the company has partnered with Vodafone decided to stand for fund raising.

The stopper's health deteriorated in January 2016 and he was hospitalized for close to 6 weeks at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala before he was flown back to the Nordic Island nation amidst fears that he could have cancer.

Abel Dhaira, who has been capped at international level for Uganda, is now undergoing chemotherapy in Iceland.

IBV head coach Bjarni Jóhannsson is sorry for the tests and fate of the player;

It is sad that Abel is too sick and has been diagnosed with cancer.

The club has pledged to stand with him and a big testimonial game is gonna be played in the coming weeks
