A police is dead after sustaining injuries from a shooting while manning the tally centre in Rukiga district. Felix Ariho, a special police constable attached to Rukiga police station is one of the officers that were injured in the incident that occurred on Wednesday night at around 11:15 p.m at Rwamucucu sub-county headquarters.

Elly Maate Kigezi regional Police spokesperson says a female police officer (suspect) identified as No.37372 Hamida Ssali who had been deployed at the quarter guard with others to restrict entrance in the tally centre at Sub-county main hall, opened fire and shot Ariho multiple times.

Hamida also shot Titus Muhumuza, a crime intelligence staff attached to Rukiga Police Station in the left leg and right hand while chasing away a drunkard who was forcefully gaining access to the tally centre. 

In the process, the officer cocked a gun in rapid and accidentally shot her colleagues.

Amon Naturinda alias Rutare the LC2 chairman for Kitojo parish in Rwamucucu sub-county came drunk and begun shouting over the victory of Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere, the NRM party flag bearer against Michael Kwarikunda Mbareeba the opposition Forum for Democratic Change -FDC party candidate. 

According to Maate, Naturinda was forcing himself into the tally centre to dance in front of Kwarinkunda, arguing that it is the time to revenge against him because he had also de-campaigned him that he is not educated to be voted the LC3 chairman.

The two officers were rushed to Kabale regional referral hospital but Ariho died upon arrival as he had lost a lot of blood.  
The suspect was briefly detained at Rukiga police station and later transferred to Kabale central police station on Thursday morning for further management. She faces attempted murder charges.

According to another police officer who was also at the afterguard, Ssali was also drunk.
