The police in Mayuge are seareching for assailants who murdered Lieutenant Corporal, Joel Cherukot a Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF soldier on Sunday night and dumped his body at a rail station in Magamaga town council in Jinja district.
The deceased was pursuing a six month’s engineering course at the UPDF School of engineering and Logistics and his body was found with wounds on the head while his right hand was cut off.
According to James Mubi the Busoga East Police Spokesperson, the deceased was last seen at Forest bar in Magamaga town council on Sunday evening.
“We have teamed up with investigators from UPDF that interacted with locals who confessed that the deceased was yesterday evening seen in the company of two colleagues whose names have been withheld,” the police spokesperson added.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was killed in the barracks and his body dumped at the railway station to be crushed by the train as a means of frustrating security investigations.
The Jinja Zone UPDF spokesperson Captain George Musinguzi,, says they have arrested nine UPDF soldiers attached to Magamaga cantonment to help with investigations and these are being held at Magamaga barracks pending instructions from the UPDF headquarters.
Cherukot’s body has been taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem
