This week, news broke about Eddy Kenzo, the president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), cruising around Kampala in a brand new, top-of-the-line Cadillac Escalade worth over a cool Ugx 700 million.
While Kenzo isn’t known for his flashy lifestyle, he is no stranger to luxury vehicles; however, the timing of this purchase raised eyebrows.
This extravagant acquisition came amidst simmering tensions within the UNMF. Many musicians have been vocal about the lack of transparency surrounding the Ugx 13 billion allocated by the government to support Ugandan musicians. Calls for accountability regarding the disbursement of these funds have been met with a deafening silence from the UNMF leadership.
The sight of Kenzo rolling in his new ride fueled speculation that federation funds might have been diverted for personal gain. Kenzo, for his part, has remained tight-lipped about the source of the funds for his new wheels.
The UNMF has yet to address the accusations or offer any clarification on the allocation of the government funds.
