On Tuesday morning, Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) issued a directive that all TV gossip shows should start airing between 10 pm and 5 am.

The memo was sent to several TV stations after numerous reports from whistleblowers indicated that the hosts use strong abusive,  demeaning, and derogatory language that violates the minimum broadcasting standards.

Some of the TV shows in the spotlight are NBS TV’s Uncut, Spark TV’s Livewire, Baba TV’s Poko Poko, BBS TV’s Round About, Urban TV’s Short Circuit among others.

With the change in the airing time, presenters and producers are worried that their viewership will drop and the shows will be scrapped off the program lineups.

UCC further warned that any TV that does not abide by the directive shall have the broadcasting license revoked.
