Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has set his sights to surpass Barcelona forward Lionel Messi on his return to Old Trafford, when the two best players clash in a friendly match between Portugal and Argentina on Tuesday.

Both players are locked in a battle to outshine each other as the top player on the planet and their latest showdown is set to take place on the home turf of the Portuguese icon.

With a soured personal relationship, the duo has deservedly become serial trophy collectors over the last decade, with a trophy cabinet replete with team and individual prizes.

Between them they have won the past six coverted Ballon D’Or contests, where Messi has been voted the winner four times in that period and second best to Ronaldo the other two years, while Ronaldo has set his sights to add a third Golden Ball this year.

Ronaldo is not the only player making a return to Old Trafford, as former Manchester United Carlos Tevez now with Juventus has been called up to the Argentina squad after years in exile and was part of last week’s 2-1 friendly match win over Croatia at West Ham’s Upton Park.
