There is a heavy police and army deployement in Rukingiri Municipality as Ingrid Turinawe, the National Political Mobilizer for Forum for Democratic Change- FDC party and Roland Mugume Kaginda face- off for the Rukungiri Municipality MP seat primaries.

Kaginda who is the incumbent Member of Parliament is seeking for a third term after beating Turinawe in the 2015 party primaries.

By 8:30 am on Tuesday morning, heavily armed Anti-Riot Police officers and UPDF soldiers were seen patrolling different parts of Rukungiri Municipality and by 9:30a.m, UPDF and police officers erected barricades along Rubabo road heading to Rukungiri Municipal stadium where voting is taking place while another group was seen heading to retired Colonel Dr Kiiza Besigye’s home in Rwakabengo Southern Division.

Moses Nanoka, Rukungiri District Police Commander ordered some FDC delegates who had converged at Rukungiri Municipal stadium at around 10:00 am, to vacate the venue so that the health teams install hand washing facilities and a temperature gun on the main gate of the stadium.

He argued that deployment is aimed at ensuring that the election is peaceful.

Meanwhile, Charles Makuru who is seeking for a sixth term in office is contesting against Darius Tweyambe and Albern Kiconco for the Rukungiri Municipality Mayoral seat.

While in Rubabo County, Naboth Namanya is contesting against Hillary Ainembabazi while the Incumbent Fred Turyamuhweza will battle with Christopher Nibamanya Kapiira and Aruho Nasasira for the Rujumbura County seat.
