The country is in shock after the Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine told the Constitutional Court that he doesn’t own ‘People Power’ pressure group.

The legislator was today responding to a petition filed by the former Ruhaama County aspirant, Adens Ntare Rutaro in which Bobi Wine, Joel Ssenyonyi the People Power Spokesperson, Dr. Kiiza Besigye, the former FDC party president and Attorney General are respondents.

Ntare dragged the gentlemen to the Constitutional Court accusing them of running and mobilizing political activities through People Power and the People’s Government pressure groups respectively which he argued are not registered political organizations.

The petitioner through his lawyer Jacob Rubeizi, argued that actions of the respondents in establishing the said organizations, organizing political activities and mobilising membership with a view of influencing political processes and participating in governance are unconstitutional.

However, Kyagulanyi in his response to the suit denied ownership of any organization called People Power whether registered or not. He added that what he, Ssenyonyi and other Ugandans are doing, is coming together in association while exercising their power as Ugandans in as far as Article one of the Constitution, which states that power belongs to the people.

The MP further notes that the claim that he is running an unregistered political organization in whatever form is false and a concoction of the petitioner.

Col. Kiiza Besigye on the other hand argues that vigilant and patriotic citizens including himself have been exercising their duty to resist efforts of historical injustice by creating their own ‘lawful’ avenues including the formation of pressure groups to restore power to Ugandans.

The Attorney General and the other three respondents were expected to appear before the Constitutional Court Registrar, Dr. Agnes Nkonge Wednesday for Conferencing but they didn’t because the Attorney General was no show.

The registrar adjourned this matter to December 9th, 2019 for mention.
