Rtd. Maj. Gen Mugisha Muntu has officially launched his new party, the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) at the Kampala Serena hotel this afternoon.

Muntu emotionally clapped, looked on nearly shedding tears as the new party was unveiled at a ceremony attended by several political players including MPs, former MPs, local leaders and well-wishers. 

While delivering his speech, Muntu promised that his party administration will not be a one-man show like NRM, but that all arms of government will be involved in decision making.

He added that the Party will come out with different policy positions so that within one year, every Ugandan will understand what ANT stands for and what the party has to offer. 

Gen. Muntu says his party will fight for Ugandan youths and ensure they compete with the rest of the world. He explains that the current government officials only care about themselves and have not fought for young people.

The Alliance for National Transformation was formed on March 19, 2019, as an opposition political party. The Party’s official symbol, a lighting bulb, its colours; White, Purple, and Orange and a logo, a map of Uganda lit with a bulb in the middle.

Muntu who leads the party will be deputized by Makerere University Don Nyanja Musoke as the national Deputy Coordinator-Operations while former Serere Woman MP Alice Alaso is the National coordinator-Finance and Administration.  

Martin Okumu will serve as the National Coordinator for Research and Policy, Christine Abia, a former MP will be in charge of the national treasury, the women’s league will be headed by Ambassador Edith Ssempala, Lawyer Wilberforce Seryazi will be the party’s mouthpiece assisted by journalist Sulaiman Kakaire and Barbara Allimadi will lead the Diaspora Affairs docket.        

According to Alice Alaso, the Party’s National Coordinator in Charge of Finance and Administration, they intend to use the next three months to traverse the country and recruit new members.

Some of the other politicians present at the launch are; former leaders of Opposition Winifred Kiiza and Prof Morris Ogenga Latigo, Democratic Party (DP) president Norbert Mao, Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) President Jimmy Akena, the Conservative Party’s Ken Lukyamuzi, Arua Municipality MP Kassiano Wadri and Bugweri County MP Abdu Katuntu, among others.
