Hours to the final debate and voting on the infamous age limit Bill, opposition members of parliament and their NRM counterparts are meeting separately to lay strategies on how to counter one another in one of the most anticipated hot debates in history of Uganda.
This morning, MPs opposed to the Bill are holed up in a meeting in the office of the leader of opposition in Parliament, Winnie Kiiza, while the NRM caucus is meeting at the Prime minister’s office.
While a report by the committee on legal and parliamentary affairs came in favor of the ruling NRM (gikwatekko) side, they cannot risk going into the debate, without meeting to harmonize their position.
However, opposing side (togikwatakko) will also not be ambushed by gikwatekko which boasts of high numbers in the house.
Appearing on a morning local TV show today, FDC’s Mwijukye Francis said if they lose the fight, the question of what next?, will be posed to the electorate, to answer.
We cannot independently tell who is poised to win in the race that saw opposition MPs, assaulted and carried out of Parliament like chicken thieves on September 27th, but the gikwatekko side, seems to have the ball in their hands already, if we are to go by the majority in the house.
Security remains tight ahead of this afternoon’s debate, with different categories of security agencies manning all entrances and areas surrounding the house.
