Different parts of Kyotera have registered long queues as the district votes a woman Member of Parliament and district chairperson.
The lines have been reported at polling stations in the town councils of Kalisizo and Kyotera as well as Lwankoni Sub County.
Today, voters in the newly created districts of Kyotera, Rukiga, Bunyangabu, Namisindwa and Butebo are voting their woman MP and district local council person.
In Kyotera, three candidates are vying for the district chairperson's seat. They include Patrick Kintu Kisekulo of NRM, Tom Darlington Balojja of the Democratic Party (DP) and Independent candidate Charles Lubega Zziridamu.
Those vying for the Woman MP seat are Robinah Ssentongo of DP, Rachael Nakitende of NRM, Nakato Nassali of FDC and Cissy Nantongo and Joeweria Namugera Makalayi both Independent candidates.
By 7am, voters were already in queues waiting to cast their vote in Kalisizo town council, Kyotera, Lwankoni and Kakuuto.
Rose Namugerwa, a presiding assistant at Victory Church polling station in Kalisizo town council says by 6am, all polling agents and ordinary voters had already gathered to cast their votes.
Namugerwa notes that she is surprised at the level of enthusiasm the voters have exhibited in this election. She explains that usually, voters turn up after 10 am but today the lines are already long, an indication that they are interested in the vote.
At the four polling stations making up Park Yard zone in Kalisizo town council, there were even longer queues of people casting their votes.
By 7:50am, at least 50 voters had cast their ballots at each of the polling stations with close to 300 voters. Mujuzi Emmanuel, one of the voters says he wanted to vote early and go and do his other work.
