Police has bowed to pressure and released Kyadondo East By election candidate, also singer Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, alias Bobi Wine.

Bobi was this morning arrested at Kasangati, where he was addressing his supporters, on the final day of campaigns for the election, slated for Thursday this week.

He was later whisked to Kiira division police station, after his rowdy supporters threatened to torch Kasangati police station. At Kiira however, Kampala metropolitan police commander Frank Mwesigwa denied Bobi’s arrest, claiming the just wanted to harmonize with him, the campaign program.

According to Mwesigwa, the singer agreed to shift his final rally from Kasangati town council grounds to Gayaza. Bobi was later arrested, and is currently heading to Gayaza, with hundreds of his supporters.

The frustrated singer, flanked by his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi, told the press upon release, that his efforts to fight for change will not be frustrated.

“There is one thing that you can never change, and that is change, I was arrested, but I have been released. The electoral commission gave us a program and I have followed it very closely, I have not broken any law” Bobi said.

He added that “As you see, this letter was written to me by Mr. Francis Nkurunzinza our returning officer, I was supposed to be in Kasangati, but I was informed by the DPC that the president wants to use that venue, which was wrong. Because I don’t want to cause any commotion, I decided to understand their problem” he added.

The president and the NRM candidate Sitenda Sebalu, are holding a rally at afro club Gayaza parish, Bobi Wine’s parish, where he is supposed to be.

By the time of his release, FDC candidate Apollo Kantinti and FDC strongman Kiiza Besigye were making their way to Kiira to demand for Bobi’s release. Kantinti had also put his campaign programs on hold, to join fellow candidate.

According to the “Bikwase Kyagulanyi” singer, he did not want to cause a presidential embarrassment, and decided to give way to sebalu. “We held a discussion with the EC chairman and agreed that in order not to cause a presidential embarrassment, we meet in Gayaza.”

He asked his supporters to be peaceful throughout the day and the voting day.
