The government of South Sudan has agreed in principle to the deployment of a regional Protection Force to protect internally displaced persons.

This was revealed by state minister for foreign affairs Hon. Okello Oryem at parliament this morning where he is presenting responses to questions about his ministry before the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs.

Okello was slated to appear alongside the ministry’s permanent secretary who did not show up but was represented by the undersecretary.

According to Hon. Oryem, currently the situation in South Sudan is stable but fragile. He also told the committee that business has resumed in Juba, and the airport is open.

He however explains that the Prime Minister, Attorney General and other officials will travel to Juba to discuss the issues of Ugandan traders.

On the issue of Ugandan workers suffering at the hands of their employers abroad, hon. Oryem said Ministry of Gender has slapped a suspension on labor exportation for domestic workers.

He however advises that; “Ugandans interested in working abroad and those already abroad are urged to register with Missions abroad.”
