President Yoweri Museveni has this afternoon held closed door talks with his Democratic republic of Congo counterpart, Joseph Kabila at Mweya Safari lodge in Kasese district.

President Yoweri Museveni has this afternoon held closed door talks with his Democratic republic of Congo counterpart, Joseph Kabila at Mweya Safari lodge in Kasese district.

Ofwono Opondo the government spokesperson says Kabila arrived at Midday; and was welcomed by his host Yoweri Museveni. The two leaders then held closed door talks before addressing the media.

Opondo says the main focus of the meeting was security in the region. He explained that Uganda is concerned about the Allied Defense Force rebels who have for a long time operated in congo.

Opondo says Uganda wants more intelligence sharing with Congo if this problem is to be solved. He also says the meeting focused on tourism development considering that Uganda, DRC and Rwanda share Virunga national park that attracts a huge number of tourists.

Also discussed was the issue of border disputes from Arua to Kasese. OO says Uganda has been having issues with D.R. Congo as the two nations claim to own some territories.

The two heads of state are expected to address the press shortly after their closed door meeting which is ongoing.
