The chairman NRM electoral commission, Dr. Odoi Tanga has announced Prossy Akampurira as the flag bearer for the Woman MP seat and Kenneth Jogo as the party flag bearer for the LC V seat in the newly created district of Rubanda.

Akampurira was declared winner this morning after garnering 18, 065 votes beating her closest challenger, Hildah Kabarungi Karuhize who scooped 15,675 votes.

In the third position was Joventa Turinomuhangi with 11, 381 votes, while Evelyn Ninsiima came fourth with 5, 553 votes.

Kenneth Jogo also beat his sole rival Pastoli Twinomuhangi to be declared NRM flag bearer for the Rubanda LC V chairperson seat.

Jogo polled 38,058 votes while Twinomuhangi garnered 19, 087 votes.

Meanwhile, the Rubanda District Police Commander, Augustine Nakitari, says the elections were generally peaceful.

Odoi also ordered the arrest of Nicholas Ngabikyire, the National Resistance Movement party registrar for Bufundi Sub County in Rubanda district for altering the woman MP poll results.

Nagbikire had initially given Akampurira a win with 4779 votes and her rival Kabarungi Karuhize, 3277 votes.

This was however contested by Karuhize’s camp forcing Odoi to order a recount that in turn showed that Akampurira garnered 3888 votes instead of 4779 votes while Kabarungi actually garnered 3797 votes as opposed to the 3277 votes she was given.
