Polls have opened in newly created Rubanda district as members of the ruling National resistance Movement go to polls to elect flag bearers for the woman parliamentary seat and LCV chairman.

There is a very heavy police deployment in the area, considering that NRM primaries were marred by violence last year.

Officers are seen on foot patrolling the area while others are on motorbikes. Some other police officers have been deployed at the district offices.

Rubanda district police commander Augustine Nakitari says they aim at ensuring there is absolute order throughout today.

Meanwhile, the NRM electoral commission chairman Dr. Odoi Tanga has promised not to forgive any candidate who tries to rig the election or cause any chaos.

He also warned leaders from Rubanda and Kabale at large to avoid campaigning today, as it is the polling day.

Seven people are contesting for the woman MP seat and they include; Jacqueline Katabazi, Flavia Twongyeirwe, Evelyn Ninsiima, Evelyn Byarugaba, Hildah Kabarungi Karuhize, Prossy Begumisa Mbabazi and Joventa Turinomuhangi.

Those contesting for election as NRM flag bearer for the LC V chairperson seat include Pastoli Twinomuhangi and Kenneth Jogo Biryabarema.
